For instance, back in 2004, he got really skinny for a movie called “The Machinist.” Then, he got big muscles for “Batman Begins.” After that, he lost weight again for “The Fighter.” Later, he gained weight for “American Hustle” and then went back to his normal weight for another movie called “The Big Short.”

Now, he’s gaining weight again to play Dick Cheney, who used to be the Vice President, in a movie called “Backseat.” When asked him how he’s gaining weight for his role at the,Toronto International Film Festival, he simply said, “I’ve just been eating a lot of pies.”

Bale gained 40 pounds for his movie “Vice.” When Bale talked to C.L. Gaber from the Las Vegas Review-Journal’s he had a chance to think about his own changes for his roles. 

Bale talked about his bigger body in “Vice.”

“I’m just mental. I’m just a demented individual. You get used to gaining and losing weight for movies. I’ve been doing this for 30 years. I don’t know if it’s the healthiest.”

Also, he used makeup and special things on his face to look more like Cheney. After “Vice,” he quickly lost the weight he gained. But going from playing Cheney to playing a race car driver in “Ford v Ferrari” was tough. 

In an interview with, CBS’s Sunday Morning Bale said he’s done with the extreme weight changes for movies. He wants to focus on his health instead.

“Yes. I keep saying I’m done with it. I really think I’m done with it, yeah. Gotta be.” 

Bale likes it when he doesn’t recognize himself in the mirror because it helps him get into character for his roles. But now, he’s decided it’s not worth risking his health just for acting. We support his decision, and we’re excited to see him in healthier roles in the future.
